How Fulla Saves Girls From Barbie
The United States has never been more mindful and also dynamic when it comes to issues that are linked to race, weight and even stereotyping in past years. As far as fashion dolls are concerned, Barbie has opened many issues that concerns her way of life.
Ever since it made its debut during the year of 1959 specifically in the American scene, it has always been marked with controversies and criticism not only by experts but as well as to concerned citizens. This is so because they are bothered by how Barbie portrays itself and the kind of message it gives to children especially about body images and even up to the sense of self-worth.
Given that, attempts have been made to make Barbie into an even more realistic fashion doll that displays what an American woman should be. The controversies of Barbie then reached to countries and when it took the attention of Middle Eastern countries especially Saudi Arabia, they were forced to ban it into their markets. Barbie’s offensiveness, very revealing character and clothes were feared by parents to influence their children greatly and this is something that conservative countries did not like.
The introduction of Fulla
The Syrian based creators New Boy Design Studios were urged to create a fashion doll that would resemble Arab’s culture and values and so Fulla doll was created. Through its very shrewed marketing, Fulla was instantly adored and loved not only by children but mostly to parents who buy their kids toys.
Fulla was introduced in the market in the year 2003 and has become an icon to children. Because Fulla was able to portray the needs of a modern Muslim woman’s wants and needs, it never failed to amuse everyone. It has sky rocket its sales in almost all the toy stores especially in the Arab market leaving Barbie on behind toy racks. Ever since then, Fulla was well adored and Barbie’s sales went down.
How Fulla was created
The creation of Fulla doll was inspired and focused on taking a modern approach yet still adhering into preserving Islamic values and beliefs. This was recognized mainly by the creators and so its market has meaningfully connected to parents.
These parents who want to raise their children by instilling Muslim values and by practicing it until they grow up has now preferred into buying Fulla dolls than Barbie because they considered the Fulla doll as a reference guide for their children but just in a form of a toy.
Outside negative influences are easily followed and absorbed by children. To add up, more amoral devices are created in easier access to these influences. It is important that these are stopped by providing children an icon that not only they can follow but also play and have fun with.
Fulla’s influence to children
Toys do not only valuably take up your kids’ time by enjoying it but more importantly it creates a greater impact to them especially influencing their values and even way of life. Since children are directly involved and affected by negative influences, it is for that very same reason why Barbie faced criticism because of its sensuality and very liberated character.
Unlike Fulla who was created more than just a fashion doll. Her character is revealed more compared to her skin. That is the reason why Fulla is preferred my most Arab parents compared to Barbie.
