Hi Fulla! Bye-bye Barbie!

Barbie, the glamorous doll adored by many girls around the world has been hitting every toy store and home in sight for a very long time as far as modern toys have been displayed. This toy rampage has been in stores all around the world, from the western countries to oriental Asia and even to the Middle East, until such time that the NewBoy toy company introduced the rival doll to the prized Barbie doll in the later part of 1990.

Fulla the new Islamic super doll
Since the doll's introduction into the toy industry, the Fulla doll has peaked its fame in less than two years and has been loved by Islamic girls. The new doll effortlessly hit every shelves and windows of the toy stores and became the new icon of the doll world, giving the Barbie doll a reason to give way to the new sensation.

How the two are different
Without much dimensional differences from each other, Barbie is perceived as a glamorous western doll as Fulla displays a modest and conservative portrayal to the eyes of the Middle Eastern public paralleling to their customs and traditions. Both may have the same wardrobe in terms of outdoor fashion but Fulla, who was named after a type of jasmine flower, always has the non-ostentatious look.

Before Fulla’s introduction, parents were uneasy with the idea of buying their children Barbie dolls thinking that the doll is not a good example to children. By the time Fulla ramped her way, the weary parents became easily comfortable and the girls were obsessed with the new modest toy that even comes with her own miniature pink praying mat.

Fulla stays on top
The Hijab-wearing Fulla was also rivaled with similar dolls that also had the same cultural look. Other than Barbie, other companies tried to sell dolls that have the same religious portrayal of Fulla yet none of them succeeded as Fulla did in the toy industry, because none could understand the Arabian culture as much as NewBoy designers could.

Fulla didn’t fame herself by simply wearing the Hijab and the Abaya but also added to the children’s appeal by the hobbies and interests that the doll involved. The doll also has a high social involvement making her the perfect balance of social activities and religious culture.

Fulla, the Good example
The rival companies are always preoccupied with the fashion sense of their dolls rather than inculcating them with cultural and religious touch. NewBoy made Fulla not only shows her good character to the public through her apparel and wardrobe but also through the media. Her television ads show her having fun in social life with friends and having time to pray before going to sleep. Not only does Fulla live a spiritual life but she also dreams to be a doctor and a teacher balancing beauty, brains and a strong spirit. This poses as a good example to children, making the girls and parents alike happy.
