Fulla: The Ultimate IT Girl

Every girl needs a role model. In this day and age it’s too easy to fall into the many illusions of feminine utopia being presented to us on each and every media platform available. It can be difficult to tell the difference between genuine idols and those that talk the talk but do not walk the walk.

Touching Muslim Ideals
In the world of Islam a great deal of thought and planning has gone into the type of role model that parents want for their children. With the current global crisis it is not surprising to note that there has been a recent outcry to revisit the core values of their cultural tradition. More emphasis is being given to becoming the ideal Muslim, especially for the women.

Fulla as Role Model
The Fulla doll is a prime example of the type of role model that parents envision for their female offspring. Conservative, generous and loving, she encompasses all the traits that parents want their daughters to emulate and develop.
The 11 ½ inch doll that originated from Syria has taken the young female population and their parents by storm. From its first appearance in 2003, it has fast become one of the top-selling items in the toy stores of the Middle East and Africa. The sales have far exceeded that of previous Islamic dolls that have been introduced to the market.
With the toy having found its niche in the consumer market, Fulla has also branched out into other items geared towards making it easier for their young customers to emulate the characteristics and practices of the Fulla doll.

Fulla and Fashion
Most little girls love playing dress-up in their mommy’s clothing and the Fulla phenomenon taking the daughters of Muslims by storm is not that different. Wouldn’t you want the option to dress and live just like your role model?
Take for example the pink prayer rug that Fulla usually comes with. A kiddy-version has been created so that when you lay Fulla out to pray, you can join her too.
From Fulla prayer rugs to travel cases… the world of Islamic fashion and accessories have never been pinker. It is common to see the Fulla trademark on various items from clothing to food.
The artist in each little girl is also further excited and developed by the various stickers and paraphernalia available from Fulla merchandise that allows them to customize items such as the Fulla travel case.
The classic Fulla garb for outdoors includes the traditional Abaya and in the parent’s mind at least it allows their young daughters to acclimatize themselves from an early age to the realities of growing up in the Islamic world.
The transition is less abrupt as they can start to ‘practice’ their future duties and occupations as dutiful wives or teachers or doctors during their playtime with the Fulla doll.
Considering the amount of time children spend with their toys it is not surprising that parents are scrambling to fill their toy chests and inevitably their childhood with items that encourage them to be proud of their heritage and to practice the traditions of their forebears.
Proper role models are hard to come by in this day and age but with the introduction of Fulla into the minds and hearts of little girls it is not difficult to envision a future filled with pink prayer rugs and pink and green travel cases.
