Byebye Busty Barbie - Fulla is Here

For so many years, Barbie has ruled the toy stores and the toy boxes and toy chests of little girls through out the world. Even in the Middle East and Islamic countries, the western influence has made its way on their market. However, in the late of 1990’s, the NewBoy toy company has created Barbie doll’s greatest rival ever.

Fulla Amps it Up

In less than 2 years in the market, Fulla has become the hottest and most selling Barbie-like doll for kids in the Middle East. It even became nearly impossible for you to walk into the toy stores without seeing an image of Fulla. There are so many underlying reasons why Barbie has taken the back although they have had a few similarities.

Fulla and Barbie
Fulla is roughly shares the same proportion and size that of the Barbie. However, it is modest and conservative which portrays much of how the Middle Eastern women really are and should be. Fulla have a lot of outdoor fashion clothes as well like that of Barbie that are sold separately but it is usually displayed with her wearing a modest outdoor wardrobe. Its name originally came from a certain type of jasmine flower which grows in the Levant.

In the past, some of the parents are not comfortable and happy to buy their kids Barbie dolls because of the certain image it displays on kids. But then as the Fulla Dolls arise, young girls become really obsessed with Fulla. Those parents who were before unhappy of buying Barbie are now seem satisfied because Fulla is a modest doll that even has its own tiny praying mat that’s colored pink.

Other Hijab wearing dolls
Aside from Barbie are so many other dolls who tried to make it into the market that also displays and wears a hijab. But none of them compared to the popularity that Fulla is enjoying presently. Many have said that this is so because no other company than New Boy design creators have understood the market of the Arab in a way that this company had.

It isn’t just about the wearing of the hijab and the abaya to the dolls; it is about the character it displays and the other hobbies in which the Fulla doll is involved. She is socially active but still makes sure that her values and culture are reserved and are still on the top priority of her activities.

An example of this is an advertisement shown that the Fulla doll bakes cake for her friends and reads book and pray before going to bed. That gesture alone shows good core values and can influence the kids into doing the same. On the other hand, Barbie, who is shown more as a socialite even more concerned of her fashion bags rather than her value seemed to be off especially to Arab parents.

In addition, Fulla doll also has two careers in which kids are encouraged to choose that as a profession someday because those are well respected jobs. Being a doctor and a teacher that both possesses immense knowledge and have the aim to change the world and make it a better place. Barbie, even with more fashion clothes to come out will never outwit and put aside the newest craze and fascination of Islamic girls, the Fulla doll!
