Barbie’s Muslim Match : Fulla

Barbie has ruled into the toy stores adored by so many young children worldwide. It has captured the hearts of so many children not only to where it originated but as well as to the places where it didn’t expect to sell. Although Barbie has been here for over 50 years, ever since it was criticized not only by experts but to feminists as well, it has managed to market. Until recently, when Barbie’s greatest match has been created.

The creation of Fulla

It is very well known that Middle East countries value their culture so much. So while Barbie ruled the markets and are adored by their kids, some of them criticized her at the same time loved her. But what bothers parents the most is that it would somehow influence their children so much to a point where it could destruct the ideals of what they want an Islamic girl would be.

Because of that awakening, Syrian based creators then created Fulla having a lifestyle that reflects the ideal characters of Muslim women. Fulla’s lifestyle was created in a very different way compared to Barbie and so when it debut in Middle Eastern countries it was more acceptable than any other fashion dolls in the market. Fulla’s concept has moved around 1990’s but it was fully realized and went into market only by the year of 2003.

Ever since then Fulla has ruled the market in all Middle Eastern countries. On the other hand, Barbie is snubbed and were replaced by Fulla dolls in toy stands everywhere.

Getting to know Fulla doll

While Barbie is seen displaying mini dresses and short skirts with tube tops and sleeveless, Fulla is conservatively dressed and shows less skin. Instead she is dressed in a hijab and the traditional abaya dress by Muslims and this basically covers mostly all parts of the body of a woman.

Sealed in a pink box, the Fulla is also seen with her fashionable pink praying mat that she uses. So while being conservative, Fulla is still the fun type because she still dresses fashionably but always considering her values and culture. Aside from that, Fulla is never boring because she hangs out with friends.

She cooks food or bake goodies to them and also does hiking and biking. This type of marketing has led millions of parents into buying their children Fulla dolls which can be considered as their kids toy friend. This is so because Fulla has shown Muslim values and that is something that the parents would want their kids to follow.

Fulla also respects both her parents so much and has no love prospect with any man and never intends to be involved romantically until marriage. She also prays before bedtime and reads her Koran- the Muslim’s holy bible- while in bed.

What makes Fulla so much better than any Fashion dolls

Fulla is never just a plain fashion doll. She goes more beyond the sweet smile and fashionable clothes. Fulla dolls actually encourage young kids to finish school and never suspend themselves in staying at home but lest aim something more in life.

Because of that principle Fulla is created with careers like a doctor and a teacher. Both careers are what parents would always want their children to be in the future. This is so because they consider it as two of the best careers they could get. Although this is a more modern approach for Arab parents, their values and culture as always will be on the first lane. Fulla’s influence to children is very good that parents would not fear of leaving them with something they can play with and something they can always follow when they grow up.
